What is livepowercut.com?
livepowercut.com is India's largest citizen-powered live power-cut tracker. When the lights go out in your home, you want to know one thing instantly: is it just me, or is the whole area down? Our platform answers that question in 2 seconds. Enter your PIN code or locality name, and you'll see whether neighbours are reporting an active outage, how many people are affected, and when power is expected to return.
Unlike official DISCOM websites that are often slow, require login, or only show scheduled outages, livepowercut.com is free, requires no login, and updates in real-time based on crowd-sourced reports from citizens across India. When you tap “Light Gone”, your report appears on the live map within seconds and alerts everyone in your area who has saved that PIN code.
We currently track 19,097 PIN codes across all 35 states and Union Territories — from major metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad to small towns and rural areas. Our database includes all 154,823 post offices from the official India Post PIN code directory, so every Indian locality is searchable.
Important: livepowercut.com is an independent citizen platform. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or owned by any government body, ministry, DISCOM, or electricity board. For official complaints, call 1912 or your local DISCOM.

Understanding power outages in India
Why does the power go out? Here are the most common causes of power cuts in India, and what you can do about each one.
Grid load shedding
During peak hours (typically 7–10 PM), DISCOMs may intentionally cut power to balance grid load. This is the most common cause of evening outages.
Feeder faults & transformer failures
Equipment failures in the local distribution network cause sudden, unplanned outages that can last from minutes to hours.
Scheduled maintenance
DISCOMs publish scheduled outage notices for maintenance work. Check your DISCOM's website or call 1912 for scheduled cuts in your area.
Weather events
Monsoon rains, cyclones, heatwaves, and strong winds damage power infrastructure and cause widespread outages.
Infrastructure overload
Rapidly-growing localities often outpace grid capacity, leading to frequent outages in new residential areas.
Animal interference
Birds, squirrels, and monkeys touching transformers or wires cause short circuits — a surprisingly common cause in rural India.
